The company has called for public consultation on the matter later this month.

The first session will be held on 22 February, at the Beaufort West Show Grounds hall at 17h30. The second session is scheduled for 23 February, at the Dutch Reformed Church hall in Prince Albert at 17h30. The third will take place at the Laingsburg Flood Museum auditorium on 24 February, also at 17h30.

The possible effects of uranium mining in the Karoo and the impact thereof on the environment are even more terrifying than the effects of shale gas extraction by fracking, said Cramer. He called on all interested parties to attend the consultation sessions as a matter of urgency.
