The elderly farmer was found on his farm between Lindley and Bethlehem on Sunday, 19 July 2015, after his neighbours came upon his vehicle abandoned in the veld, according to Tommie Esterhuyse, FSA Safety and Security chairperson.
It was believed the attack took place on Saturday night. The incident was still being investigated and no arrests have been made.
The extreme brutality of farm attacks was alarming, and “put the livelihood of anyone involved with the agriculture sector at risk,” said Esterhuyse.
Farmers, land owners and their workers must remain vigilant and take all possible precautions to protect themselves against potential attacks, he said.
