French trade mission at Nampo

There are 10 French businesses exhibiting at Nampo this year. The French Trade Commission, UbiFrance, has recognised the potential for growth in sub-Saharan Africa and, like many other European countries, is proactively looking for market gaps.

UbiFrance reports to relevant French ministries, actively encourages and supports French business development in foreign countries.

Sima, one of the French exhibitors, is a mega agricultural trade show held annually in Paris at the end of February. The Sima show has a reputation, which it works hard to keep, of presenting innovation in technology. Show organisers try and offer farmers the best in agricultural advances and Sima representative Karine Le Roy said they encourage South Africans to visit Paris next February.

Le Roy said there are two agricultural shows in Paris during this time: Sima and the World Agriculture and Livestock week. Both are major events in the agricultural world.

“We would like to organise a South African day at Sima, and possibly a stand. We want to understand the SA market and its needs and to encourage healthy trade between our countries,” said Le Roy.

France is responsible for 20% of Europe’s agricultural production and considers itself to be an important player in EU agriculture.

“We regularly have visitors from North Africa, but now we want to generate interest from South Africa,” said Le Roy. “We see South Africa as a platform to launch French technology and products into the rest of sub Saharan Africa.”
