Unique online bidding system for grains

The Basislink online bidding system developed by Senwes and Grainlink came into operation on 11 December.

It offers approved buyers access to the Senwes purchasing infrastructure, as well as the chance to purchase commodities from a specific silo.

Purchases can be made on a forward, pre-season or spot market contract. Basislink is confidential and private – individual buyers are not linked to the transactions on the screen. It’s also secure.

Senwes guarantees delivery and the buyer knows immediately when the order has been carried out.

A history of premiums and tons traded will also be available.

‘We recognised the opportunity to use the Basislink bidding system to provide the grain market with a unique solution to the challenges involved in basis trading and basis valuation. The aim of the system is not to facilitate speculation, but rather to create a trading platform for fundamental buyers at specific silos,” said Pieter Esterhuysen, general manager at Senwes Grainlink.

Initially, white maize, sunflower, soybeans and sorghum will be traded on the system.

Grain buyers who want to participate in the bidding system can register online or contact Wimpie Bouwer of Senwes Grainlink at 018 464 7569, or [email protected].
