An improved plastic fire syringe
Lloyd Phillips

The simplest things can make life so much easier. This fire syringe and a 20l can will make finishing-off a firebreak a simple process.

Established in 1996 by Kevin Toucher, Klips n Things (KnT) produces a variety of plastic products for the South African market. Kevin enjoys developing new, practical designs and cost-effective products to make life easier. After the veteran fire-fighting syringes that many South African farmers became familiar with over the decades suddenly went off the market, Kevin saw a niche for his business to introduce its own variant of these handy tools.

Kevin has now designed a moulded polyethylene fire syringe tube with the same diameter but which is far more robust and durable. It can handle the hard knocks associated with fire-fighting better than the old 50mm PVC tube. Where the plunger on the old model used a leather washer seal that often prevented the syringe from fully filling with water, the KnT model has a more effective nylon seal.

The fire syringe is currently only available directly from Kevin and some outlets in the KZN Midlands. The recommended retail price of R199 (incl VAT) is significantly less than that of the old model. Spares are individually priced.
