Restoring the quality of water
Chris Nel

OWS Water Restoration offers technology to restore degraded freshwater environments.

OWS Water Restoration specialises in restoring the ecology of polluted water. Conventional water purification methods damage nematode populations and beneficial bacteria in the water, while using pesticides in the catchment area may devastate the plant growth and water life. OWS products have a number of planned beneficial effects on water. The technology restores the health and biodiversity in especially the deeper layers of the water mass. The effects include restored plant and aquatic animal life and improved fish production. This also gives farmers the opportunity to use the water to produce export quality organic produce.

Products
OWS supplies two chemical/biological water remediation products: Water Cure and Sludge Buster. Each has a specific purpose, effect, use, application means and rate. Used singly or in combination, they balance algae, reduce ammonia levels, flocculate total suspended solids, neutralise the production of toxic gas, balance the nitrogen cycle and increase the dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the biological oxygen demand (BOD).

Consulting Service
The OWS team offers a consulting service for water management projects. The clients include mining houses, environmental management projects, factories and manufacturing plants, farming communities and government bodies and agencies. Case studies at the Uilenkraal Feed Stock Farm near Darling, Western Cape and waste water settlement dams on the Muratie Wine Estate, Glenelly Wine Estate, Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and Barrydale Cellars demonstrate the dramatic effect of OWS treatments.
