Kuhn’s better bales

Kuhn’s LSB 1290 is designed to produce bales 25% denser than those made with conventional balers.

At the heart of the new Kuhn LSB 1290 iD (Intelligent Density) baler is the TwinPact plunger system. To produce bales 25% denser than average requires twice the plunger force. In order to achieve this, the TwinPact plunger is divided into an upper and lower section that compress the bale in two steps. This increases the applied force on each surface and provides greater compaction, avoiding the massive peak loads that would normally be required for heavier bales. In fact, the load on the driveline is the same as that on a conventional 120cm x 90cm baler.

Other features include a 600mm-diameter integral roller that controls flow to the pre-chamber in energy and biomass crops. This produces consistent bale flakes, regardless of the condition of the windrow. The high-strength rotor tines are bolted in place rather than welded in order to ensure easy maintenance, and the pre-chamber filling mechanism has a newly designed mechanical feeder fork, eliminating the need for complex steering systems.

For secure knotting, the LSB 1290 is equipped with six double-knotters adapted for high-density bales. Blowers keep the knotter area clean. The shield design provides storage capacity for thirty 12kg twine spools and the pivoting twine boxes allow clear visibility of the pre-chamber and needle areas. The platform area allows easy access to the knotter deck area and blowers. The 3m-long bale chamber, combined with the pressure control system, provides optimal bale density under all conditions.

Money saver
Denser bales lend themselves to more efficient handling and transport, as fewer trips are necessary. Suitable for conventional hay and straw crops, the new Kuhn LSB 1290 baler can also be used to harvest energy and biomass crops to generate the next generation of biofuels. Large square bales can play an important role in this process.
