Compact yet powerfuld wheel loaders, manufactured in Finland, are making their mark in agriculture. At the Royal Show this year, Avant Durban will show a range of models with a variety of attachments suitable for many handling jobs on a farm.

The Avant 750 loader, for example, is stable, easy to drive and turns smoothly, without damaging sensitive surfaces such
as lawns and paved areas, a problem often associated with skid-steer loaders. The telescopic boom makes it easy to stack bales or load high-sided feed mixers.

Operating the Avant with steering wheel and one joystick for the boom is much simpler than controlling a skid-steer. Moreover, the Avant is about half the weight of a similar-sized skid-steer, making it easier to transport – yet its lifting capacity and reach is higher. Tyre wear and fuel consumption are also reduced, because of the simpler drive-train.

The Avant is powered by an efficient, reliable Kubota diesel engine.

Effortless silage handling
The silage fork  is just one of a wide range of attachments for the Avant wheel loader. Three sizes are available to suit the different Avant models – from 900mm wide with six lower tines to 1 300mm wide with nine tines. Other attachments particularly useful in farming operations include buckets, manure forks, bale forks and grabs, big bag lifters, silage block cutters and silage dispensers.

Compact yet powerful
Ryan Allkins of Avant Durban tries out the 635 with timber grab. The tool can grab tree trunks, branches, wood waste and other material, and transport it either at right angles to the direction of travel for loading trailers, or in line, for passing through narrow openings or between trees. The freely rotating head can also be fitted with a hydraulic rotator.
