Farmworker Johannes Molemi’s bodily remains were found on Shambala Private Reserve near Vaalwater in Limpopo after he was apparently killed by lions. It is believed that he was attacked when taking a short cut across the lodge, said provincial police spokesperson Superintendent Ronel Otto. Molemi’s family has since identified him by his clothing. “We suspect that he had been visiting someone when he took a short cut that put him in the lions’ path,” said Otto. his follows the controversial death of a young boy, Tshepo Gaerupe, who was also mauled to death by lions on a farm near Tosca in North West. While Molemi was not killed by a caged lion as in Gaerupe’s case, police have opened an inquest docket. S pokesperson for the Waterberg local municipality in Modimolle, Lucas Nhlapo, said the municipality would investigate safety precautions taken on game farms. – Staff reporter
