Rustic Timber Home

My husband and I have a farm in Limpopo to which we want to retire and leave our current house to our children. We want to build a cosy cottage for ourselves on the farm and have selected a beautiful site.

Dear Jonno
I’ve attached a photograph of the location so that you can see how the land slopes down to a small dam. There is an abundance of wildlife and birds all around the dam.

The cottage must be rustic and easy to build. We always wanted a home constructed of timber, but we’ll leave the materials to be used in your expert hands. There are, however, many gum trees as well as some pine trees on the farm that can be used.

The cottage must have a lounge/dining area and kitchen on the ground floor, with two bedrooms and a bathroom with separate toilet. We would also like a deck on each floor overlooking the dam. The rooms can be of average size, but we would like very large windows wherever possible, to enjoy the view of the wildlife.

Dear Vanessa
This site is just what everyone would want to retire to. Timber home construction is my forte. The cottage shown here can be constructed at a reasonable cost. The wall framework consists of vertical gum poles with timber scantlings. This framework is then clad on the outside with rough-sawn planking (ship-lapped), while you can use any wall cladding you prefer on the inside. For this type of construction, you will need detailed working drawings.
I’ll wait to hear from you.

Regards
Jonno
