Kudu biltong for Hong Kong?

The Namibian Agricultural Union (NAU) welcomed an announcement of a proposed visit by Hong Kong authorities to Namibia, regarding the exportation of beef and game meat from Namibia to that country.

NAU CEO Sakkie Coetzee said Namibia’s farmers were always looking for alternative markets, particularly since the introduction of the new SA import regulations earlier this year.

Namibian beef and game were already sold in the form of high-end products across the Scandinavian and European markets, according to Coetzee.

“Creating new markets in addition to our current markets is of the essence. Namibia’s agricultural economy is small and we have to add value on as many levels as possible. That is why we are exited about the possibility of beef and game exports to Hong Kong.”

The infrastructure is already in place, and export beef, mutton and game are slaughtered at the five EU accredited abattoirs, namely Keetmanshoop, Mariental, Aranos, Windhoek and Okahandja.
