Mentorship is not a free-for-all

Mentorship must be based on sound financial principles and is not a free-for-all, said Martin Detering, Free State Agriculture (FSA) land reform chairperson at an FSA mentorship workshop in Senekal.

There is a season of new realism in mentorship in the Free State, he said. "We no longer just want to talk the talk about new farming mentorship.

We want to walk the walk."

FSA feels there is a need to facilitate a joint action to bring mentors in the Free State together. "We are sure there is a need to exchange experiences and work for a common goal," said Detering.

The time has come for all role players in agriculture to come to the table with workable mentorship programmes based on sound economical and financial principles.

"We also need participants in such programmes who are willing to earn support from the role players," said Detering
