Agreement between Grain SA and Argentina

Grain SA and Argentina’s public institutes and private concerns recently signed an agreement pertaining to mutual co-operation as strategic partners in grain crop research.

According to a Grain SA newsletter, the agreement is based on the mutual provision of skills, technologies, research, development, equipment and productivity improvement.

The agreement was signed during a visit earlier this month by a delegation from Argentina. The delegation included that country’s National Institute of Agriculture Technology and the chamber for agricultural implement manufacturers.

Grain SA Conservation agriculture facilitator Dr Hendrik Smith said the agreement provides for, among others, the establishment of grain trials as part of the Grain SA conservation agriculture programme and the provision of no-till equipment by Argentina for the trials on a permanent basis.

Conservation agriculture projects in Ottosdal and Wesselsbron have been identified to be included in the Grain SA/Argentina agreement. The trial designs have been finalised and trials are being planted, said Smith.
