This represents a decrease of 98 000t from the current 835 000t. Price levels are trading closer to export parity at the moment, Wessel Lemmer, senior economist at Grain SA, said in the organisation’s latest newsletter. Maize exports amounted to 1,6 million tons by the end of October, which allows 353 957t for whole maize exports until the end of April 2015. SA exported 635 183t of maize to Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland (the BLNS countries) during the 2013/2014 marketing year.

“We believe that 353 957t will be exported to the BLNS countries and other African countries during the next six months,” said Lemmer. Grain SA’s latest supply and demand projections for soya beans and sunflower seeds indicate that the final stocks for both oilseeds may become tight towards the end of February 2015.
