This was according to agriculture minister, Senzeni Zokwana, during a roundtable discussion attended by students from agricultural colleges and their principals in Benoni yesterday (June 30).
The minister said the Dutch government would provide support in curriculum development at higher education and further education and training levels; policy development; quality assurance; and management information systems.
“DAFF will be facilitating a conference through the Netherlands’ funded project where colleges are going to showcase the programmes that have been supported,” said Zokwana.
College students were expected to be the main participants at the conference.
Afasa secretary-general Aggrey Mahanjana commended the move, saying the Dutch were renowned internationally for theihigh quality of their training institutes.
“This is not a bad thing at all. It’s good to learn a thing or two from other countries and hopefully this will benefit our industry because as Afasa we have been calling for all farmers to be accredited to ensure they possess the basic skills,” he said.
