The money will be used to install camera systems on strategic access routes to proactively monitor and prevent criminal activity.

Improving rural security is one of their main priorities, said Japie Grobler, chairperson of the Trust Fund, in the statement.

“It remains an enormous task to resolve the crime problem and we hope that with the financial assistance of the Trust Fund a contribution is made to create a safer environment for these communities,” Grobler said.

Funds were also allocated to the security desk of Free State Agriculture in support of their services in the province.

Grobler said that they have noticed an increase in crime on farms in the Free State and more resources were needed to address crime-related complaints.

“There is an increasing amount of pressure on this organisation’s security desk to meet expectations,” he said.
