This after a smallholder farmer Dave Harmse and his wife were attacked by four armed men at their home in Oranjeville in the early hours of Tuesday, 24 November, according to a media statement from the FSA.

Two suspects who were wounded in the ensuing scuffle were arrested; the SAPS is searching for the other.

“The festive season is around the corner, and we know that farm attacks and crime on farms increase during this time,” said Tommie Esterhuyse, FSA’s law and order committee chairperson.

Among other things, he called on farmers to count their livestock regularly, park their vehicles in a locked garage/shed and to know their workers, “keep copies of their IDs on file.”
