However, SANParks CEO Fundisile Mketeni said that the organisation will remain sensitive to animal welfare.
Drought readiness measures will include artificial water provision, fire management plans and possible wildlife removals in some of the smaller parks to protect vegetation from over utilisation.
River management plans are in place between water user associations and catchment management agencies.
These plans will manage water releases from dams upstream. Water conservation programmes are also underway in staff villages.
