According to media reports, the moratorium was set aside after SA game breeders John Hume and Johan Kruger initiated a legal battle to overturn the ban.
The decision comes ahead of a Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) meeting in Johannesburg next year, where SA planned to submit a proposal to legalise international trade in rhino horn.
Rhino poaching in SA led to 1 215 rhino being killed last year for their horns. Some private rhino breeders believe selling legally harvested horns could supress black market trade.
