Newly appointed Gauteng and North West land claims commissioner Itumeleng Seboka said, in line with government’s priority of completing the restitution programme, her goal is to ensure the settlement of all outstanding land claims by March 2008 in the two provinces.

Seboka said the settlement of these claims should be designed and implemented in a manner which will contribute to the sustainable social and economic development of the beneficiaries. “My challenge is therefore to facilitate the creation of an environment conducive to the attainment of this goal and make sure that this is done in a sustainable way,” she said.

Her appointment comes six months after the resignation of Blessing Mphela, who has since taken up a post in the Western Cape premier’s office. Seboka previously worked as a project manager in the regional land claims office for Gauteng and North West. – Fidelis Zvomuya
