Polysulphate, in its natural crystal state, is mined in the UK. It contains four nutrients, namely sulphur (S), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca).

It contains 19,2% S, 11,6% K, 3,6% Mg and 12,2% Ca, all in sulphate form, and all these nutrients are fully available to plants. Its chloride content is very low, enabling it to also be applied to sensitive crops. It has a low salt index and a neutral pH.

Polysulphate is derived from a mineral called polyhalite. Being a natural crystal, it has a unique dissolution pattern that releases nutrients gradually after being applied to the soil.

The prolonged availability of nutrients reduces the chance of fertiliser loss and matches the uptake timing of crops.

Polysulphate has a low carbon footprint and is certified for organic use. The product consists of granules that are 2mm to 4mm in diameter, with excellent spreading characteristics, and is an ideal fertiliser to apply alongside straight nitrogen.

It can be applied straight or used in blends.

Potatoes are heavy feeders, needing an adequate and balanced supply of plant nutrients. Polysulphate is especially suitable for the potato crop as it provides the essential nutrients S, K, Mg and Ca in one application.

The prolonged release of Polysulphate means that as these nutrients are released, a continuous fresh source of each is provided to the growing potato crop.

Calcium is crucial for skin quality in potatoes. Polysulphate application will result not only in high yields, but also in good skin finish, improved dry matter and increased starch content.

Polysulphate has the following benefits:

  • It delivers superior yields, improved quality and increased profitability;
  • It enhances crop health and vigour;
  • It is a versatile product, suitable for many types of crops and all types of soils;
  • Easy, uniform spreading;
  • Low chloride, low salinity index, neutral pH and no acidifying effect;
  • 100% organic;
  • Sourced from the UK, with a secure supply of fertiliser.

ICL has been cooperating with Ekor Fert and Talborne Organics in selling Polysulphate in South Africa.
