This followed months of severe drought which has left thousands of livestock dead and some communities without water.

Lesiba Kgwele, spokesperson for North West premier Thandi Modise said the entire province was declared a drought-stricken area in terms of Section 41 of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002.

Urgent interventions are also being considered to alleviate the water shortage in Mamusa and the Greater Taung Local Municipality, which includes Schweizer-Reneke. These areas have resorted to delivering drinking water to communities, as the Mamusa Dam has virtually run dry, said Kgwele.
