2014 Fruit gala awards

The deciduous fruit industry awarded stakeholders who have contributed significantly to the success of the industry at a gala event recently.

Piet Karsten, founder of the Karsten Group, scooped the OSH Reinecke Industry Leader Award, which acknowledges his long-term contribution to the agricultural industry and to the deciduous fruit sector in particular.

Apple and pear producer Richard Myburgh of Cortina Farms in the Vyeboom area won the award for new entrant to the fruit industry.

The research award went to Dr Ian Crouch for his contribution to the Forelle Early Market Access programme.

UK-based agricultural publication Foodnews was awarded the Izethelo award for continuous coverage on the fruit industry.
