Nozibusiso Maphumulo (27) grew up in a small rural village in KwaZulu-Natal, under extreme poverty. Maphumulo knew very little about agriculture but was exposed to subsistence farming in the village.

While studying for her Honours degree she found out about the Maize Trust Bursary, which has made it possible for her to study further.

Through her experience, she plans to help smallholder farmers be better able to fight pests, and she also wants to help them adopt environmentally friendly methods of farming.
