Lombard was one of the founder members of Agricultural Writers SA in 1977, a voluntary organisation that promotes high standards of agricultural journalism in South Africa.
He was born in Cradock in the Karoo and was involved in agricultural journalism since the mid-1950s, providing content for magazines such as Farmer’s Weekly.
