They were also joined by delegates from agricultural unions and Cosatu. This was the culmination of nine provincial farmworker summits held earlier this year. It was deemed a success by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries because, for the first time, workers could voice their own grievances and discuss how they want their conditions improved.
Led by representatives from government, organised labour and civil society, the summit addressed the critical need to build good working relations and living conditions for these vulnerable workers.
