It promises to be an exciting opportunity for young people to explore the career prospects in agriculture and play a positive role in achieving food security.

According to minister of science and technology Derek Hanekom, food security is high on government’s list of priorities.

"If there still is any doubt, the release of the South African National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey last year confirmed that too many of our people are underfed. The fact that this is occurring in a relatively well-off nation, and despite adequate domestic food production, is a reality which all of us are undoubtedly keenly aware of,” said Hanekom in a media statement.

The PMA said trained young people were scarce in the agriculture industry and that affected businesses negatively.

The Career Fair provides companies and organisations an opportunity to showcase their products, services, career opportunities, as well as their bursary and internship programmes.
