“Youth unemployment is extremely high, yet rural youth employment is essential for achieving food security,” said Takavarasha.

Although opportunities exist in agriculture, rural youth faced many challenges, among them collateral against which to take out a loan, limited access to productive resources like land and finance and limited participation in farmer organisations.

He challenged government to equip the youth “with the right skills and resources to make a meaningful contribution to agricultural and rural development.”
