Food losses in Sub-Saharan at 100mt/year

About $4 billion of grains are lost every year, enough to feed 48 million people, Tobias Takavarasha, the FAO’s representative for South Africa, said at the African Union’s Post-Harvest Losses Forum in Johannesburg today.

The need for interventions to reduce losses becomes even more imperative when the environmental impact of wastage, the loss in nutritional value and market opportunities are taken into account, he said.
