The need for such a facility was tabled in 2022, and after careful consideration, the green light was given by the delegates attending the 2025 congress. The facility will come into operation in 2026.
According to Dr Tobias Doyer, Grain SA CEO, all the role players that were needed to get an enterprise such as this training facility off the ground had come on board. This included, among others, the state, academics and agricultural businesses.
“The Nampo grounds provide the ideal position for Nampo Tech, as the facility will be known. It is situated centrally in the country, which makes it possible for students to attend classes in off seasons,” he said.
Nampo Tech students will qualify as full members of Grain SA, but without voting rights.
“Training will be offered on an apprenticeship basis, with a curriculum developed around the needs of the grain production sector,” Doyer added.
Derek Mathews, the exiting Grain SA Chairman, described Nampo Tech as “a centre for tailor-made training and needs-driven education”.
