Contentious issues pertaining to land will continue to dog the agriculture industry over the next five years, according to political analyst Justice Malala.

Land would continue to be the “centre of focus” as government pushed ahead with its 50/50 policy and the proposed implementation of land ceilings for agricultural land, among other controversial policies, said Malala in the keynote address at the FarmBiz Agribusiness Africa Conference held at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg, from 15 July to 16 July.

Programme director Dr Tobias Doyer, the chief executive of the University of Africa in Zambia, said representatives from about eight countries including Kenya, Zambia and Argentina were attending the conference.

Issues relating to agribusiness, business opportunities in Africa and the whole agricultural value chain were expected to come under the spotlight at the conference.

Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana was expected to address the conference tomorrow (16 July) at 11am.
