NAMC grain estimates for 2015/16

SA’s National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMC) has projected a total supply of maize of 12 473 329t for the 2015/2016 marketing season in its latest Supply and Demand Estimates Report.

The estimate included a 2 073 635t opening stock on 1 May 2015 and a closing stock of 1 323 329t on 30 April 2016.

The total demand for maize was projected at 11 150 000t with a total local demand of 10 360 000t. NAMC calculations indicated a balancing figure of 32 000t. Exports of 190 000t of processed products and 600 000t of whole maize was approximated for the 2015/2016 marketing season

The total supply of wheat was projected at 4 064 263t. This included a 593 913t opening stock at 1 October 2015, local commercial deliveries of 1 510 350t, whole wheat imports of 1 950 000t and a surplus of 10 000t. The projected closing stock level at 30 September 2016 was 578 763t.

The total projected soybean supply was 1 248 554t. This included an opening stock at 1 March 2015 of 63 704t, local commercial deliveries of 1 027 850t, soybean imports of 150 000t and a surplus of 7 000t. The projected closing stock level at 28 February 2016 was estimated at 122 354t.
