Pamela Tshwete, deputy minister of Water and Sanitation, said when she and Minister Nomvula Mokonyane finished their terms “there will be no water leaks in South Africa”. This led to Mokonyane shrieking: “Oh Jesu!”

Tshwete was answering a question from host Peter Ndoro during The New Age business briefing on water security held at Woodmead in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning (2 December).

Pravin Gordhan, minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, who also took part in the discussion, said they were in touch with the agriculture sector to have a “reasonable understanding” on how much assistance was required to mitigate the effects of the damaging drought which has seen government declaring five provinces including Free State and North West as disaster areas.
