The Citrus Growers’ Association (CGA) has suspended exports to the EU after another four consignments were found with citrus black spot.

The suspension excludes mandarins and citrus from disease-free areas in the Northern Cape and Western Cape, said Deon Joubert, CGA’s special envoy for market access and EU matters. The voluntary suspension of exports came before a fifth consignment of fruit with citrus black spot was detected, which would lead to a suspension of trade with the EU.

The CGA will ask the agriculture department to seek test results from the EU to verify the presence of live and viable fungus at the point of inspection
