A phone call from Marmello in Lesotho and an explanation of her housing requirements resulted in this ethnic-styled cottage. The biggest challenge was to fit a two-bedroom family home into a 70m² floor area. Much juggling of the layout and rubbing out finally produced the desired end-result.
Absolutely no wasted space here – headroom space on the stairs is achieved by setting the bathroom basin at normal level, but with no space below. A downstairs toilet is tucked under the stair landing with access from the end of the scullery. A storage cupboard is also located under the below-stair area. Aesthetically, the look of the cottage is in keeping with earthy colours and has a rustic appeal. Colouration is achieved with pigment mixed into the finishing plaster-cement coats. What’s nice about the layout is that it can be proportionately increased in size to suit requirements and budgets.
Let me have you comments, Marmello.
Regards, Jonno
