An Mpumalanga Home Affairs official has been arrested in connection with the murder of Johan Prins who was shot dead on his farm in Groblersdal last month.

Aubrey Mohlabe was arrested and made a brief appearance in a Witbank court recently. “We received information linking Mohlabe to the murder, so we arrested and interrogated him and he admitted to being present at the murder,” said Captain Manie van Zyl of the SAPS’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit.

Prins was shot with a shotgun, which was found in the roof of Mohlabe’s home with Prins’s .22 rifle, a 303 rifle, a 9mm pistol and five fake ID books when police searched his house.

The firearms have been linked to another farm attack which took place near Witbank in April last year. Mohlabe will remain in custody until his hearing on 14 February. His arrest brings the number of suspects arrested for the murder to three. – Gwenda van Zyl
