The real farming life

I am not a farmer. My pitiful vegetable garden is a testament to that fact, but that does not stop me from getting my weekly agricultural fix.

Why am I drawn to your pages? I think the answer lies in the fact that if you want to know where we stand as a nation – you should stand in a farmer’s shoes. Farmers are a litmus test in the waters of climate change, technological development and political movement. They are on the coal face or ‘green face’ of our rawest issues, from crime to labour management.

Furthermore, contrary to the stated and counter-progressive stereotype often borne by farmers, I have noticed your articles reflect farmers as innovative and economically conscious people with a real understanding of climate issues. I thank you for publishing an accurate record of how things are on the land. Keep up the good work.
