Rockman confirmed that more than 114 900 cattle have already been vaccinated, with additional doses secured and priority areas identified to curb further spread. Key elements of the Free State’s FMD plan include:
- Strict control of animal movement, including quarantine measures and restricted transport within and across provincial borders;
- Targeted vaccination in high-risk and buffer areas as vaccines become available;
- Enhanced biosecurity at auctions, with a shift towards online auctions where possible;
- Active surveillance and rapid response, including immediate testing of suspected cases;
