The highlight of its celebrations will take place at the 2014 Vryburg show from 21-26 April.

The show will be attended by the World Simmentaler Federation president Dr Josef Kucera, as well as a number of breeders from Germany, Namibia and the Czech Republic. The festivities will culminate in the South African National Simmentaler Championships.

The first Simmentalers in Southern Africa were imported from Germany to Namibia in 1893. This was followed by a Simmentaler herd imported from Switzerland by the MT Steyn, president of the Free State Republic. He kept the herd on his farm near Bloemfontein.
