Government on top of Limpopo FMD outbreak

Limpopo’s government veterinary authorities are said to be in control of a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak discovered there on 17 July 2013.

This outbreak reportedly occurred inside the official FMD Protection Zone north of Phalaborwa, and where FMD vaccinations are regularly given to susceptible cloven-hoofed livestock. However, livestock farmers adjacent to the protection zone are concerned about poorly implemented control measures, such as the zone’s fence-line which has been allowed to fall into major disrepair.
