KZN aims to impound unvaccinated pets

KwaZulu-Natal health authorities are pushing for legal permission to search houses for pets that haven’t been vaccinated against rabies.

A recently established KZN rabies task team also wants legislation allowing unvaccinated dogs to be impounded and possibly even euthanized. KZN is in the grip of a rabies epidemic that has directly and indirectly claimed 4 human lives so far, with a fifth victim still fighting for his life in an Umlazi hospital.
