Ram sells for R200 000

Google, a super fine wool ram belonging to William and Acton van Aardt of Fairworld Fine Wool, Cookhouse, Eastern Cape, recently sold for R200 000 at the Merino stud’s 27th ram auction.

The buyers were Kerneels Greyling from Bovenvallei, Wakkerstroom, and his son BP, from Langfontein, in the same district.

Four years ago, the Van Aardts scooped the SA record for the highest price paid for a ram, when the ram Barrier went for R250 000. The buyers on that occasion were also the Greylings and they intend to use Google to cover the more than 4 000 ewes produced by Barrier.

One of a set of triplets, Google produces wool of 17,7 microns (72,7% clean).

All rams on offer were sold and the average price was R12 604. The auctioneers were BKB.
