Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa said WoF had become one of government’s most successful programmes.

“WoF instils discipline in young people to take care of the environment, to love their work and their country,” he said. “The youth is central to the achievement of a sustainable future. We want the youth on our continent to expand their horizons and find a role for themselves in the future development of the forestry sector at home and abroad.”

Recently, 48 young men and women from WoF returned from Canada where they were part of a team that helped the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) fight wildfires in western Canada.
