From now on SA will be allowed to import the grain of the maize variety, DAS-40278-9, developed by Dow AgroSciences (Dow), that is tolerant to the herbicide, 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid). This grain will be allowed for use as food and feed in SA.

Responses have been mixed to the news that the South African government has given commodity clearance allowing the import of maize grain from a newly developed herbicide-tolerant genetically modified maize variety.
