SA’s Foot-and-Mouth Disease Protection Zone likely to be reduced

South African government veterinary authorities are likely to reduce the area of the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Protection Zone in Northern Zululand.

This decision was prompted by the results of a survey that found that only livestock vaccinated against FMD in the area showed FMD antibodies. The new FMD Protection Zone would surround the areas where these vaccinated animals are. No cloven-hoofed animals or their products will be allowed out of the proposed zone.
