Heavy rainfall earlier this month had raised concerns among exhibitors and visitors preparing for the agricultural showcase, but organisers say extensive work over the Workers’ Day long weekend helped dry out the grounds.
Speaking to Farmer’s Weekly, managing director of Nampo, Dirk Strydom said teams acted quickly following the rainfall.
“We did receive some downpours at Nampo in early May. However, the teams over the long weekend managed to pump away water and help the park dry out more quickly.”
Strydom confirmed that preparations at the park were continuing unhindered.
“Currently there are no restrictions on access to the park for exhibitors and they can continue setting up,” he said.
Nampo Park conditions improve
He added that weather conditions for the coming week looked favourable.
“The forecasts for the rest of the week look great, which will assist with the drying of the park. Currently our weather looks very promising. With sunshine throughout the week and temperatures averaging around 20°C, conditions should be pleasant for visitors.”
Forecasts provided to Nampo by FieldClimate Pessl Instruments and Villa Crop Protection show predominantly sunny and dry conditions leading up to and during the event. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 20°C and 23°C, while minimum temperatures could drop as low as 2°C in the early mornings.
Favourable outlook for Nampo week
According to the forecast models, cooler mornings are expected from Wednesday onwards, followed by clear sunny conditions during the day, which should create favourable conditions for exhibitors setting up machinery displays and visitors walking through the grounds.
South African Weather Service meteorologist Lehlohonolo Thobela also provided an encouraging outlook for the event.
“It is a week of good weather news for Nampo, as fine and cool conditions are expected to dominate from 12 to 15 May 2026, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 20°C and 24°C. Winds are expected at speeds of between 10 km/h and 20 km/h,” Thobela said.
