Jail time for reluctant whites

Zimbabwe minister of land affairs and Security Didymus Mutasa has warned that white farmers who fail to evacuate their farms by the given deadlines will be imprisoned for up to two years. This follows complaints by Zanu-PF officials who have laid claim to some farms that white farmers are taking them to court. S ome of the land under claim is protected by bilateral trade agreements between Zimbabwe and other governments to protect the business interests of citizens of these countries. As a result, Zimbabwe is now tied up in several court cases in The Hague. Mutasa was earlier quoted as saying that only farmers who had good relations with Zanu-PF would be allowed to keep their land. – Staff reporter
