Sun World International, an established US producer and marketer of fresh fruit, recently appointed Green Marketing International (Pty) Ltd in Paarl, Western Cape, as a new local grape marketer. “We operate one of the world’s largest table grape and stone fruit breeding programmes,” said David Marguleas, senior vice president of Sun World. “Green Marketing International’s appointment brings Sun World closer to its supply partners and will enhance our ability to satisfy the year-round demand in Europe, the UK, Asia and North America.” Marguleas added that Green Marketing International is a category leader in the South African industry and adds significant value to Sun World’s growing international supply platform.

“We see this appointment as a natural progression in terms of our relationship with Sun World, as we already market stone fruit for them,” said Rory Antrobus, managing director of Green Marketing International. Sun World’s predominant grape cultivar is the black, seedless Midnight Beauty. In the near future Scarlotta, a red seedless variety, will also join the ranks, said Antrobus. “Our main market is the UK supermarkets, where we match supply and demand by controlling the amount produced by Sun World-licensed producers in South Africa,” he said. – Wouter Kriel
