The Gauteng Stock Theft Forum believes that a syndicate is targeting stud animals on the perimeters of the province.

Forum chairperson Willie Clack said that the area had seen an unprecedented amount livestock theft cases since June 2013.

“It would appear as if the same syndicate is involved in all the cases, as the same truck was used to load the stolen cattle,” said Clack.

The truck is white with a blue tailgate. “It looks as if the truck is actually built for mass grain transportation and the cattle rails are not of a high quality,” said Clack.

He said that evidence found of paint and tyre marks and the way in which the cattle were loaded at pens close to the N1 and other major routes, all point to the same truck – and culprits.

There’s no evidence that the truck and cattle remained in the province and the possibility that the loads ended up in other provinces can’t be excluded.

Clack said that he suspected that the cattle would be used to breed with, considering the high quality of the animals, or slaughtered.

No new leads have been found with regards to the stolen cattle. The public is requested to be on the lookout for the truck described. If they spot it, they’re to contact Lt.Col Scott of the Gauteng Stock Theft Unit at 082 335 1083 or Capt Lubbe of the Modimole Stock Theft Unit at 084 515 6925.
