Approximately 150 people of the local neighbourhood watch will be dedicating their time to patrol the streets during the event.

Thinus Barnard of the neighbourhood watch said that they would do patrols in groups from 9pm to midnight. Two cars with two people per vehicle would then patrol from midnight until 6am.

“We have direct radio contact with security companies in the area and are able to deploy within two minutes, if needed,” said Barnard.

“We’ve been doing this for three years and have seen a marked decrease in crimes in the area.”

He said that the neighbourhood watch had been in contact with all the security companies as well as the security at Nampo and the police. Members would also be handing out pamphlets containing security tips and emergency phone numbers to visitors.

“We don’t do this for profit and we don’t charge a fee. We do it for the people and to help out in the community,” said Barnard.
